Parenthetical Girls are a band. Of sorts. Zac Pennington may not be last year’s posterboy nor a virtuoso—let’s just say he’s a boy. A boy moved by affection and mercy, who doesn’t care about neon lights and miracles. A boy breathing memories. Red bruises and frozen fists. Jherek Bischoff and Sam Mickens (also in The Dead Science) help to craft narcotic sound castles that surround Pennington’s thrilling chants, recalling all of our sins and secrets. Acuarela was proud to offer the European release of Safe As Houses, the band’s sophomore record, plus four more songs rescued from dusty recordings. In a similar way to bands like BARR, Lucky Dragons or even the oft-cited Xiu Xiu. Parenthetical Girls invent and translate their inner conflicts on perfect pop tunes. The european release of this album, originally released by Slender Means Society, featured four forgotten songs: “The Fragile Class”, an extended version of the album’s “Keyholes & Curtains”, the almost dancing “Puritanically Yours” and a perfect closure: “Wait Another Year”, included on a special Christmas release.
