Anthony Reynolds became famous as the leader of Jack, and produced much respected records: his debut “Pioneer Soundtracks”, “The Jazz Age” or “The End of the Way It’s Always Been”, and EPs such as the highly amusing “La Belle et la Discotheque” (Acuarela, 2001). As a member of Jacques, the alter ego he created with another Jack –Matthew Scott in this case, Reynolds cruised labels like I Records o Setanta; their résumé boasts a fair number of 7” and EPs, as well as albums such as “To Stars”. The “Romantic” EP (Acuarela, 2002), a renewal of their commitment to timeless and classical inspiration, was Jacques’ last step. After that, led by a British fondness for the medium format, Jacques took one step further in their restless career with “Roses for Ashes”. The five songs were faithful to the guidelines Reynolds had conscientiously set: class, utterly elegant decadence and capricious shifting, indifferently embracing the use of soul, storytelling, techno pop or recited poetry. But on top of everything else -Jack and Jacques, folk and blues, pop and cheeky eighties style, there will always be the voice, the pose and the attitude of a man for whom life is music.
